The Directorate has to play a vital role in compiling macro parameters for monitoring of the State Economy as envisaged under the System of National Account propounded by the United Nation Statistical Commission under operational guidelines of the Central Statistical Office, Government of India. It has also to create data-base for this purpose as well as existing and emerging data requirement of the State Government and that of the Central Government in Bihar. The Directorate of Economics and Statistics, Bihar has the special significance being the Office of the Chief Registrar of Birth and Death for Bihar.
